The hill temple of Kalinka is located in Birkhal   block of Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand in  North India. The temple complex is located  close to the border of Almora district and is  dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple has  existed for centuries but the new structure has been renovated in the last decade. It is often confused with Banchal Kalinka, near Malund village in the Rath region in Thalisain.

        Historically Kalinka Temple☆

Historically, the construction of the temple has been credited to the Badiyari community. The Badiyars were a semi-nomadic shepherd tribe. Till some time back, he participated in different businesses in the state, some settled in big cities within or outside Uttarakhand. However, some still practice their ancestral profession of farming and animal husbandry. According to a folk tale, a shepherd of Burari was rearing his sheep on the ridge who currently resides in the temple. While he was sleeping at night, he was awakened by a loud voice and thunder with a flash of lightning. He saw a bright light and heard a shrill and furious voice that allowed him to climb the mountain and build a temple there. The temple was to be dedicated to the goddess. After paying homage to the goddess, he started climbing and after reaching the summit, collected some rocks and built a mound.
